November 2nd and no snow yet in Jackson Hole; hard to believe. The mountain tops have a dusting but that's about it.

This time of the year, the rut has finished and moose; having run out of food along the riverbanks; are moving out into the open sage brush flats of Grand Teton National Park. Here they feast on the bitter brush plants that grow among the sage.
I made this picture in late October a few years ago. This year, we haven't had any substantial snowfall...

Sparring bull moose in Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park.
Once the mating season dies down, bulls slow down and recover from the long weeks of chasing the cows around the valley. That doesn't prevent them from engaging in some friendly sparring.

Moose Mating in the River

During moose mating season in September and October, the moose can be hard to find.
Mature bull moose are constantly on the move, looking for cow moose who are ready to mate.
I found this couple in the Gros Ventre river in Grand Teton National Park.
After patiently waiting, this bull finally got what he waited for! The poor cow almost got squash...
