Up close and personal with a grizzly.
I love getting close-up shots of animals as it allows you to get a feel for the animal's personality.
And, you get to look at all the details in the photograph that you never would have been able to see in person.
Now that the grizzlies here in the Tetons are waking up after a long and cold winter, I'm out daily trying to find and photograph these critters.
Photographing a grizzly is best done from a safe distance so use a big lens. This may sound logical, however, when you're out in the field, you tend to see plenty of people who seem to think that grizzlies are as harmless as a donkey in a petting zoo. For your safety and that of the animal, keep a safe distance.
Here are some of my favorite close-up shots.
