The Northeastern section of Yellowstone into the tiny towns of Silver Gate and Cooke City is a great place to go looking for moose.
I found this big bull in the Custer Gallatin National Forest which borders Yellowstone National Park.
Even though hunting is allowed there, I was surprised at how not skittish this bull moose was, and, how big he was! Areas that allow moose hunting typically see bull moose not make it past their 5th birthday - as is the case in western Canada - since hunters want the trophy to hang on their wall.
Bull moose typically reach their prime, with the biggest antlers, later in life up to the age of 10. After passing 10 years of age, antlers can start to show irregularities like drop tines (like the big bull Hoback in Jackson Hole).
