Here is today's image: you don't always get what you want. On a long hike through a riparian habitat along a river to look for moose, I found no moose. Disappointed and sore, I started walking back in the general direction of where I parked the car. It was late afternoon so not a typical time of day to find great horned owls active, as they are primarily nocturnal. On this afternoon, however, a pair of owls was flying around and actively hunting. They acted skittish so I had to keep my distance; luckily I brought my 500mm lens with me. The owl pictured went to the ground, caught nothing and then perched on an old fence post; a leftover from a long time ago as I was hiking in a national park and no active fencing was present other than this farming remnant. Shortly after I took the picture, the owl took off.
