Brown bears in Alaska's salmon-filled streams are on the hunt.
As opposed to their usual diet, the abundance of salmon in shallow streams means easy access to fatty and protein-rich meals.
Whereas some brown bears walk through a creek and suddenly pounce, this one ran at full speed in the hopes of catching his meal.

Dominant Brown Bear

An up close encounter with a brown bear in Southeastern Alaska's rain forest.
As opposed to black bears, a brown bear (or grizzly) tends to act dominant: if it wants to walk in a certain direction, you better step aside. Other than it being a rather unnerving experience, it allows for otherwise hard to get close-ups of this big predator!

A big brown bear catches his meal: a female Chum (or "dog") salmon, in a spring-fed creek in Southeastern Alaska.
The salmon run is in full swing and bears are coming down from surrounding mountains in Alaska's Misty Fjords National Monument to get their protein and to fatten up for the coming winter.
