I came across this golden aspen tree in southwest Colorado a few months ago.
I was out looking for wildlife (didn't find anything) but I was excited to find this scene: a lone aspen tree in fall colors highlighted by the sun amid the dark forest.
The tree was very bright but only took up about 1/3rd of the picture against the dark (almost black) background. The camera meter had a hard time getting the exposure to what I wanted it to be. I ended up using exposure compensation of minus 1.3 to keep the dark background actually dark, instead of the camera turning the black background to grey and blowing out the highlights on the aspen tree.
