The miracle of the salmon life cycle interests many predators. The prospect of an easy, high protein and high fat salmon meal lures many carnivores to the cold creeks and rivers where salmon go to spawn (or reproduce) annually.
Come summer and fall, many streams in British Columbia, Canada and Alaska are the scene of epic battles between spawning salmon, grizzly bears, black bears, bald eagles, river otters and other critters.
This Alaskan grizzly bear (or coastal brown bear, as they are more commonly called when living along the coast versus inland) was successful in landing himself a big salmon. The salmon in question is a female chum salmon, one of five species of salmon that live in the Pacific Ocean.
