Up Close Swim

Sometimes when you're attempting to take pictures of wildlife, it gets frustrating.  The animal doesn't show up, it's cold, it's raining ... hours turn into days ...

Sometimes however, everything comes together and you have one of those "Am I dreaming or is this really happening?" moments.

Southeast Alaska is a rain forest.  It gets cold with endless hours of rain; even during summer when the salmon are spawning and you're patiently awaiting grizzly bears to come feast on them.

I was amazed when this grizzly (or "coastal brown bear" as they're sometimes called on the coast) not only turned up, but swam straight towards me AND looked into the camera.  This is not a crop picture so you can imagine how close he was.

Luckily for me, he was not the least bit interested in me.  He was there for the salmon feast.
