Blondie's Twins

August 21, 2020  •  6 Comments

Blondie, otherwise known as grizzly bear 793, is a celebrity bear in Grand Teton National Park.

Like 399 (that other bear and probably the most famous bear in the world), she 'hangs' in the area of the park around Pilgrim Creek.  Seeing that both sows are believed to be using the humans for protecting their offspring against the big grizzly boars, and thus are often seen near park roads, Blondie is a favorite among the park visitors.

This year, she appeared with one new cub ('coy') in tow. Unlike other years however; possibly due to 399 and her 4 coys using this area; she didn't stay long and hasn't been seen frequently in the park.

Her litter of 2017 however, a pair of healthy sub-adults now, are out on their own since last summer and are frequently posing for photographs.

Here's a portrait shot of one of the young ones as he (or she) stands up to check out the line of people taking its photograph!

Thank you Patricia! They're amazing! I believe they are named Stu and Fritter. Felicia is the grizzly sow that lives on Togwotee Pass east of the park.
