Snow Geese in the Rio Grande Valley

December 13, 2022  •  Leave a Comment

Winter is an excellent time to head to New Mexico's Rio Grande Valley.  Thousands of snow geese and sandhill cranes spent their winter here, in the relatively mild temperatures.

Along the Rio Grande river, there are several great spots where you can visit the wintering birds: some of my favorites include Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, Bernardo Wildlife Management Area and Sevilletta National Wildlife Refuge.

Here's an example of a pond along the Rio Grande filled with snow geese.

One picture shows the calm scene; the next one shows the same scene when a large cloud of redwinged blackbirds flew by.

Which one do you like better?

If you are interested in ordering a fine art print for Christmas, the deadline for ordering is coming up.  Please order in the next few days to receive your print by Dec 24th.  Shop here on Etsy
