Snow Geese at the Rio Grande

December 16, 2023  •  Leave a Comment

Winter is an excellent time to visit the Rio Grande river in New Mexico.  The wintering home of thousands of Sandhill Cranes and Snow Geese, many wildlife refuges exist along the river for easy viewing and photographing.

This image was made in New Mexico's Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge.

Both Snow Geese and Sandhill Cranes search out the safety of water for the night. There are plenty of coyotes and bobcats around, who cannot silently approach the birds while they're in the water.
