A seemingly tender moment between a grizzly and his (rotten) salmon which he fished up from the lagoon bottom.
Many of the salmon here in southeastern Alaska have spawned and dying by this time.
While the bears get very picky and only seem to eat female salmon - for their roe - at the beginning of the season when the salmon are arriving ... towards the end, when many salmon have died and females with roe are few and far between, grizzlies eat whatever they can find.
Including dead, half decaying salmon ...
