The Northeastern section of Yellowstone into the tiny towns of Silver Gate and Cooke City is a great place to go looking for moose.

I brought my big 500mm prime lens but the fox didn't get the idea that I was using it to keep sufficient distance from the wildlife.

Sandhill Cranes arrive for the night at one of the ponds in New Mexico's Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge.
It's great fun photographing the bird silhouettes as they fly into the safety of water to spend the night. There are plenty of coyotes and bobcats around, who cannot silently approach the birds while they're in the water.

Bull Moose in the Sage

Once the easy browsing for leaves comes to an end in the fall, moose move out into the open sage brush flats to browse their favorite winter food: antelope bitterbrush.
I found this big bull out in the open near a creek in the Tetons.
He wasn't alone, however, as about 10 other moose were eating bitterbrush spread out around him.

On some hikes you get lucky, on others you wander around for hours through the sage brush trying to stay upright.
