These two newborn cubs were in panic mode in Yellowstone National Park.

Sometimes you'd mistaken a bear for an elk or a moose. Most of their diet is vegetation!
This national park - America's First - has a lot to offer. As a result, it gets very busy: my number one tip for wildlife photography in Yellowstone is to get away from the crowds!

This grizzly sow spent much time grazing near the road. Not without risk as several grizzlies get killed in the Tetons and Yellowstone annually by cars, but it's believed that she 'uses' the closeness of people to protect her cub.

It's always special when a wild animal trusts you enough to nurse its newborn cubs in front of you!
I found this black bear sow and her two coys * along a hiking trail in Yellowstone's Lamar Valley. After observing them for 30 minutes, one of the cubs started wining. The mom positioned herself on her back and the following scene ensued.

Staying close to mom is the best way to survive for young animals. This black bear cub (and his sibling half hidden next to mom) was never far from the sow. While she grazed, the cubs played around within a few feet, or when danger showed up, the cubs climbed the nearest tree.

While in Yellowstone National Park, a loud noise drew me to this tree in the forest. I was amazed to find a black bear; repeatedly climbing up and down the tree; ripping off the tree bark. Turns out, he was trying to get a bird nest inside the tree!

This here is the grizzly sow and her coy (" C ub O f the Year") that have been putting on quite a show in the Bridger-Teton National Forest, a few miles outside of Grand Teton National Park borders. They have been grazing on and off near a local road since late May.
